GOKYU (Orange or Gray Belt)

This level is geared towards students with no previous martial arts or selfdefense class experience.

General Objectives:
1. Learn defenses against a single, unarmed person
2. Learn core group of techniques and combinations to be applied to a variety of defense scenarios
3. Learn where to target techniques.
3. Discussion of improvised weapons and "self defense" weapons.

Verbal defenses
Use of voice as a weapon
Use of voice for asserting personal boundaries

Core Techniques

Standing- palm heel strike, elbow strikes, knee, front kick, stomping kick, round kick, back kick, claw to eyes,  rising block, simple parries

While on the ground- movement on the ground, side kick, round kick, front kick, axe kick, elbows, claw to eyes, concepts of grappling

eyes, face, throat, ribs, knee, groin, shin, instep, kidneys, spinal column, back of neck

1. Theoretical and practical knowledge of the following: 2. Be able to defend on all unarmed one person attacks on all levels of defense.
