Providence Reformed Bible Church

Micah and Jennifer Everett decided to join Providence Reformed Bible Church in West Monroe, Louisiana, in August 2008, right when this new church was beginning. A Reformed Baptist church, PRBC holds as its confession the 1689 London Baptist Confession of Faith, and teaches "the Doctrines of Grace that men may know themselves, and thus cry out to God for forgiveness, justification, and salvation." It is exciting to be getting in on the "ground floor" of a brand new church, one that will preach and teach the whole counsel of God without surrendering to the shallow, entertainment-oriented trends of modern evangelicalism.

Reformed Baptist Fellowship

"Reformed Baptist Fellowship is a global network of churches adhering to the London Baptist Confession of Faith of 1689. RBF encourages mutual cooperation for missions, church planting, edification, and fellowship. RBF is not an association or denomination, but is simply a means to network LBC 1689 confessional churches together."

The Gideons International

Founded in 1899, The Gideons International refers to itself as "an extended missionary arm of the church," and is made up of over 250,000 members in over 180 countries. Gideons place millions of copies of the Bible each year in hotels, prisons, hospitals, schools, and other institutions, as well as ministering to, serving, and witnessing to millions of people throughout the world. Jennifer and I are proud to be a part of this great association, and look forward to serving the Lord for many years through its ministry.

Bible Gateway

A subsidiary ministry of Gospel Communications International, Bible Gateway is a tremendous resource for those wishing to study the Word in depth, offering free access to a plethora of Bible translations in many languages, both text and audio. Commentaries, dictionaries, and other study tools are available here, as well. Again, an OUTSTANDING site!

AlbertMohler.com

Dr. R. Albert Mohler, Jr. is President of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. His site includes daily commentaries, a blog, mp3 recordings of his weekday radio show, the Albert Mohler Program, and other articles, speeches, etc. Dr. Mohler's writings and comments are consistently thoughtful, poignant, and theologically sound.

Founders Ministries

"The purpose of Founders Ministries is the recovery of the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ in the reformation of local churches. We believe intrinsic to this recovery is the promotion of the Doctrines of Grace in their experiential application to the local church particularly in the areas of worship and witness." I first discovered this site and organization through a link to one of its online articles. Its promotion of the Doctrines of Grace (read: Calvinism) in Southern Baptist life and doctrine is in marked contrast to the more Arminian theologies found among perhaps most Southern Baptists today. Whether one agrees or disagrees with the Calvinism of this organization, the commitment to sound, thorough Biblical exposition by those contributing articles here results in challenging and edifying writing. This is a welcome departure from the shallow tripe that modern evangelicals are unfortunately too guilty of producing.

The Reformed Reader

The Reformed Reader, "committed to historic Baptist beliefs," includes hundreds of pages of articles and historical documents, along with a discussion board for issues pertinent to Reformed Baptists.

Chapel Library

A ministry of Mt. Zion Bible Church in Pensacola, Florida, the Chapel Library offers a tremendous amount of historical material such as articles and tracts, both in print for a nominal fee and for free online. MZBC also has a prison ministry, a disaster relief ministry, and a correspondence school, Mt. Zion Bible Institute.

Christian Classics Ethereal Library

CCEL is an online repository "of hundreds of classic Christian books selected for edification and edification." I mainly use this site to read John Calvin's Commentaries (even though I have hard copies of these as well), though there are thousands of pages of edifying reading here.

John Gill Commentary

John Gill was a British Particular Baptist minister during the eighteenth century, and author of the first verse-by-verse commentary of the entire Bible. Gill is somewhat controversial and is often unjustly accused of being a Hyper-Calvinist, but his thorough knowledge of the Scriptures, as well as Biblical languages (particularly Hebrew), customs, and related historical documents make his commentaries particularly useful.

Sermon Audio

As the name suggests, here you will find a large library of sermons in mp3 format--almost 200,000 at the time this is being written. One must be discerning in choosing material here, as sermons are available here from practically all theological stripes. The discerning listener will find HOURS of challenging and edifying listening here!

Alpha and Omega Ministries

Honestly, I am sometimes a little "put off" by James White, the director of this organization, as his manner is sometimes too sarcastic for my taste. However, his books and other writings are simply outstanding, and White has repeatedly proven himself to be an able and conscientious defender of the Christian faith.

Leadership University

Leadership University is a resource produced by Christian Leadership Ministries, the faculty arm of Campus Crusade for Christ International. This site includes a wealth of articles relating to Christianity, academic life, social issues, and the role and function of the Christian faith within the academy. The site also includes profiles of Christian faculty members (myself included), many of which include links to their websites.

Chalcedon

"Established in 1965, Chalcedon (kal-SEE-dun) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) and Christian educational organization devoted to research, publishing, and promoting Christian reconstruction in all areas of life. Chalcedon is geared to all who understand that Jesus Christ speaks to the mind as well as to the heart. We believe that the whole Word of God must be applied to all of life. It is not only our duty as individuals, families and churches to be Christian, but it is also the duty of the state, the school, the arts and sciences, law, economics, and every other sphere to be under Christ the King. Nothing is exempt from His dominion. We must live by His Word, not our own." Many Christians are leery of reconstructionist organizations like Chalcedon, and of the voluminous writings of its founder, R.J. Rushdoony. While I do not subscribe to all of this organization's ideas (I am neither a postmillenialist nor a reconstructionist), I do find some of them to be useful and instructive. If nothing else, Chalcedon's emphasis upon righteousness, holiness, and obedience to the Lord Jesus Christ is a welcome contrast to the Biblical illiteracy and even antinomianism found so often among professing Christians.

Institute for Creation Research

ICR was founded in 1970, and remains on the forefront of the study of origins from the Creationist perspective. Rather than attempting to forcibly meld the typical evolutionary-naturalistic paradigm and the account of Creation presented in the first chapters of Genesis, ICR's scientists proceed from the perspective that the Bible is literally true from beginning to end, and interpret their findings with this in mind. While most secular scientists (and others) contend that beginning with such an assumption constitutes a bias which cannot come into play in science, Creationist scientists hold that the a priori assumption of naturalism and/or materialism is an equally present bias in secular research. In my opinion, although "Young-Earth Creationism" is a somewhat young field of research, and therefore somewhat undeveloped compared to its secular counterparts, it is more tenable theologically than Intelligent Design, and much more sound that "progressive creation," "theistic evolution," and the many other compromise theories between Genesis and Darwin that have been proposed. Creationism ultimately denies that materialistic science is the "sole begetter of truth" (as stated by Harvard geneticist Richard Lewontin), acknowleging that "although people are finite and scientific data concerning origins are always circumstantial and incomplete, the human mind (if open to the possibility of creation) is able to explore the manifestations of that Creator rationally, scientifically, and teleologically" (from the ICR website). Rather than limiting the individual to materialistic explanations, this seems to offer greater freedom to research and explore ideas than rigid materialism will ever allow.

Answers in Genesis

Like ICR, AiG is a prominent Creationist research and ministry organization. With headquarters, speakers, and ministries located throughout the world, AiG is active in promoting Creation research throughout the world. One of its more notable projects is the upcoming Creation Museum near Cincinnati, which will present the Biblical account of origins and the Gospel of Jesus Christ to thousands of visitors beginning in 2007.

Wycliffe Bible Translators

Wycliffe's mission is very simple: "to assist the church in making disciples of all nations through Bible translation." When Jen and I were undergraduate students our Discipleship Training teachers invited a representative from Wycliffe to speak to the class, and ever since that time we have contributed regularly to this ministry. Wycliffe's translators and other missionaries work diligently to translate God's Word into new languages, reaching people that have never heard the Gospel of Jesus Christ. In many cases, these individuals not only have to learn a new language - they sometimes have to even invent a written form of languages that have heretofore been only spoken, and then teach these new written languages to the people! Additionally, these missions are often fraught with danger, as some of these unreached people groups are initially hostile. The courage and faithfulness displayed by these individuals as they seek to fulfill Christ's Great Commission (Matthew 28:19-20) is truly inspiring!

Christian Performing Artists' Fellowship

CPAF's mission is "to bring the love of Christ to a relatively untouched mission field: the many thousands involved in the world of the performing arts." As a music teacher and performing musician, I am grieved to see that so many of my colleagues are lost, without Christ, and destined for Hell. CPAF represents an attempt to rectify this lamentable situation, as well as provide opportunites for professional and spiritual growth and fellowship for its members.

Meet the Prof

Another resource produced by Christian Leadership Ministries, meetheprof.com offers Christian professors an opportunity to share their testimonies, and an opportunity for students to see and identify faculty members that are believers in the Lord Jesus Christ. I also have a profile on this site.

Christian Book Distributors

Many of the ministries linked above have small attached online stores that offer a number of quality publications. CBD is much larger and less specialized, with offerings appealing to Christians of just about every stripe. It operated for years as a catalog mail-order firm before the advent of the Internet, and offers fair rices and quick shipping.

Covenant News

This site is most definitely NOT for those that have trouble with "calling a spade a spade" when it comes to sin. This news site offers linked articles and occasional in-house commentaries on the political, social, and moral issues of the day. The editors are clearly concerned with pursuing and proclaiming the greatness, holiness, and justice of God, and with making sure Christians are equipped to respond to the issues of our time.

The following links are not Christianity-related, but are included for the benefit of those visitors who may be interested in my professional activities and background.

ULM Faculty Site

This website contains information for my students and prospective students at the University of Louisiana at Monroe, where I serve as Assistant Professor of Low Brass. Much of the material here is relevant to brass players in general, not just my students and prospective students.

ITA Journal Audio/Video Reviews

In January 2004 I joined the staff of the International Trombone Association Journal as Editor of Audio/Video reviews. My primary function at the Journal is as a grammarian, though I also serve as an intermediary of sorts, receiving materials for review from record companies and recording artists and distributing them to qualified reviewers.

University of Louisiana at Monroe

ULM serves approximately 9000 students, offering degrees from the Associate through Doctoral levels in numerous fields of study. The Division of Music, in which I am an Assistant Professor (see above), is part of the School of Visual and Performing Arts, a major part of cultural life in the area. I have assumed the role of webmaster for the Division of Music, and have recently completed a massive overhaul of the Division's website.

University of North Carolina at Greensboro

I attended UNCG from 2001-2005 (in residency from 2001-2004), and earned the Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees in the School of Music. My time at UNCG was extremely busy and productive - I taught courses and applied lessons at UNCG, Elon University, and the University of Northern Iowa at various points during my tenure there, while completing two graduate degrees in four years. I do have regrets, however - I am grateful for the blessing that the Lord has provided in my academic career thus far, though I wonder if missed opportunities for service and spiritual growth by compounding so much work into such a brief timespan.

Delta State University

I attended Delta State from 1997-2001, and earned the Bachelor of Music Education degree in the Department of Music. DSU is a small school (approximately 4000 students), yet I had numerous opportunities for professional growth and development there. I believe that small, undergraduate-focused institutions and departments offer the best overall experience for undergraduate students - DSU definitely provided such an environment, and I believe ULM does as well. As an added bonus, I met my lovely wife while attending DSU!

International Trombone Association

Founded in 1972, the ITA is "dedicated to the Artistic Advancement of Trombone Teaching, Performance, and Literature." With over 4,000 members, the organization welcomes trombonists of all ability levels, including professional performers and teachers as well as amateurs and enthusiasts. The International Trombone Festival, an annual event sponsored by the ITA, brings together trombonists from all over the world for concerts, masterclasses, exhibits, and competitions.

Hickey's Music Center

Located in Ithaca, New York, Hickey's offers a full selection of sheet music and accessories for brass instruments. I urge my students to purchase their sheet music and accessories here, both because of the great selection and the fact that they ship UPS 2-Day Air at no extra charge for orders lighter than five pounds!

Conn-Selmer

Conn-Selmer, a subsidiary of Steinway Musical Instruments, is now a huge conglomerate of American instrument manufacturers. Their trombones include some of the most recognized and respected brand names in the world, including Conn, King, Benge, Bach, Holton, and Martin. As an Trombone Artist/Clinician for Conn-Selmer, I play and endorse the Conn 88H-O tenor trombone, the King 2103 (3B) tenor trombone, the Conn 34H alto trombone, and the Benge 290 bass trombone.
