Hunting and Exploring expedition to Kentucky with Gideon Ison, on horseback.
Camped at mouth of Beech Fork on Big Leatherwood. To explore, one headed
up the stream and the other down. Gideon found an Indian camp of the previous
night, returned to his camp. He decided that if William hadn't returned by
the first star he would head home. When that time came, he mounted his horse
and saw William approaching far off, carrying a deer. When William asked
why he had been on his horse, he told him. William said he had seen an Indian
peeking over a log and pretended not to see him until he passed him, then
he bagan running and turned to see the Indian running in the other direction.
They stayed up until first light, then headed home.

Samuel was the first known settler of the Forks of Troublesome
Creek. Hindman was originally called Cornett's Mill in his
honor.

Joseph wore a size 14 or 16 shoe, and was known to many as
"Big Footed Joe". He was the first school teacher in
Letcher County, Ky.
He was one of the more affluent citizens of Letcher Co., said
to own as much as
10.000 acres of land.
Joe was a self-made doctor, brewing up his own medicines, some
said he had some
old Indian formulas from which he worked.
He had written some songs, a few of which are still sung in
the Baptist Churches in
Eastern Kentucky. One of these was called "Little Bessie" which
has now been made into a country and western song. --Cornett,

William Jesse Cornett had 102 grandchildren.
He is buried at mouth of Bull Creek, Perry Co. KY., where he saw in a dream that he drove his wagon and team to a sassafras tree on the hill and couldn't move them.

5. NATHANIEL WOOLERY CORNETT (WILLIAM JESSE4, JOHN CANUTE3, EARL2, ERIN1) married LYDIA CAUDILL August 26, 1834, daughter of STEPHEN CAUDILL and SARAH ADAMS. She was born July 19, 1816 in Perry Co., KY, and died in Knott Co., KY.
Nathaniel walked and hunted his way to Arkansas and took
a homestead on 1500 acres of land. He returned to Kentucky and tried to persuade
his wife to go to Arkansas with him and she refused. He turned in his claim
to the land. The city of Little Rock, Arkansas now stands on a part of this
land.
On his way back from Arkansas, he picked up two pecan seeds and planted
them on his land in Kentucky where two great pecan trees now stands at the
mouth of Big Branch, Knott County, Ky. (Trees were cut down in approximately
1995).
